By Baboloki SemeleNairobi, Kenya: The 5th UN Environment Assembly concluded yesterday in Nairobi with 14 resolutions to strengthen actions for nature to achieve the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs). The Assembly is made up of the 193 UN Member States and convenes every two years to advance global environmental governance.
The issue of plastics and its impact on the marine resources has compelled participants at the continental conference on fisheries to call on governments to work to efficiently deal with plastics in their various jurisdictions.
The Executive Secretary of the Ministerial Conference on Fisheries Cooperation among African States Bordering the Atlantic Ocean (ATLAFCO), Mr Abdelouahed Benabbbou, has called on governments in the region to provide conducive conditions and frameworks that promote the active involvement of women in the fisheries sector.
